Our Breeding Philosophy

At Ragmad Ragdolls, our passion is the Ragdoll breed and our commitment is to breeding healthy, happy and well-adjusted cats with the beautiful characteristics and wonderful temperament that make Ragdolls so special.

We are proud to be GCCF Breeder Scheme registered and are committed to following the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy’s rules, registration requirements and Code of Ethics. Our breeding programme is carefully planned, with the health, welfare and temperament of our cats always our highest priority.

Our breeding cats are health tested in accordance with current recommendations, including screening for recognised hereditary conditions such as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). We maintain detailed health records and believe in being open and transparent with our kitten families, providing the relevant documentation and information they need.

Raising Our Kittens

Our kittens are born and raised in our home as part of our family. From an early age they receive lots of love, individual attention and daily handling, while being introduced to normal household sights, sounds and routines.

We believe this early socialisation plays an important part in helping our kittens develop into confident, affectionate and well-adjusted companions.

The welfare of our queens is equally important to us. We do not overbreed our girls and carefully consider every litter, ensuring their health and wellbeing comes first.

We are passionate about finding the right homes for our kittens and take the time to offer guidance and support to prospective owners. Our responsibility doesn’t end when a kitten leaves us — we remain here to support our Ragmad families throughout the lifetime of their cat.

Showing & The Ragdoll Breed Standard

Showing is an important part of our breeding programme. Exhibiting our cats allows them to be assessed against the GCCF Ragdoll Breed Standard and helps us to continually evaluate our breeding programme.

We regularly attend GCCF shows and are incredibly proud to have bred our own Kitten Champion female.

We look forward to continuing to show our young cats as they mature and progress into the adult classes from nine months of age.

Our aim is to preserve and promote the beautiful characteristics of the Ragdoll breed while producing kittens with excellent health, temperament and type.

Our Kittens

Our kittens are raised in our home, surrounded by everyday family life. They receive plenty of human interaction, handling and socialisation from an early age and become accustomed to normal household activity.

Every kitten receives the individual care and attention needed to give them the very best start in life.

Every Ragmad Ragdolls kitten:

• Is fully vaccinated before leaving for their new home

• Is microchipped in accordance with current requirements

• Receives appropriate worming treatment

• Has a veterinary health check before leaving us

• Is fully weaned

• Is litter trained

• Is handled and socialised daily

• Leaves with a comprehensive kitten information pack

• Is GCCF registered as Non-Active, unless otherwise agreed

Our kittens leave us from 13 weeks of age

We believe the additional time spent with their mother and littermates is extremely valuable to a kitten’s development.

During these important early weeks, kittens continue to learn social behaviours, boundaries and confidence from their mother and siblings. It also allows them time to become fully weaned, complete their vaccination programme and develop both physically and emotionally before moving to their new family.

We want every kitten to leave us feeling confident, secure and ready for their new adventure.
